I help women with their health and fitness specifically I’d help women who are challenged with sugar have a sugar addiction have an awful sweet tooth have those sweet cravings I’m an excess body fat because of too much sugar in their diets why do I help women like this because that was me
For years for years and years I was on that sugar roller coaster — on and off sugar constantly. It all goes back to when I was a child. We had sweets all the time — in our school lunches, after school snacks (I can still remember this warm apple and brown sugar cake my mom would make for us), and dessert after dinner. At Halloween I’d get hundreds of pieces of candy. I’d hide it in my dresser drawer and have a piece each night… my only little stash that I’d ration.
I also baked a lot of brownies and cookies on the weekends growing up. In fact my mom would buy this huge bulk bag of brownie mix and store it in the freezer. It was probably 25 pounds of brownie mix. So my sister and I would always make brownies. I can even remember sneaking a pinch of the brownie mix from the freezer.
Now as an adult, when I’m out to dinner or lunch with friends I try to pass on the dessert. But we end up getting one to “share.” Everyone one has a bit or two, but I’m the one who always finishes it off!
I’ve even sneaked cookies or chocolate chips when no one is around. And after the dishes were done and I could finally relax, I got into this bad cycle of having one or two cookies each evening.
I finally admitted to myself and accepted that I am addicted to sugar. This is the first step to overcoming my sugar addiction.
Just like alcoholics, we must accept that we cannot eat like “normal people” when it comes to sweets. We have to learn to control and/or avoid sugar so we don’t go off the deep end again and again.
For me I have to mentally focus on staying away and limiting my sugar. Now I still have an occasional treat, but when I do I know that next day will be tough and I have to be ready to face that. I know that if I have a sweet the next day the cravings will be fired up and it will be harder and harder to get off sugar.
